Who We Are

Susan Martin

 

 

Susan Martin has been a Trustee at Sherburn House Charity since September 2008, and is Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Her professional life was spent in education working in schools for children with a range of learning difficulties.In her last post she was Deputy Head of a large special school in Sunderland for 14 years, and was involved in all areas of leadership, management and governance.Having taken early retirement when the Special Schools in Sunderland were being re-organised, she has for ten years been a Governor (now Chair) at Durham Trinity School, attending appropriate training courses.

 

 

Margaret Bozic

Margaret Bozic has been a Trustee since August 1998. She is a retired Chartered Surveyor, and also a Board Member of the Lit and Phil Newcastle and a Trustee of the Tyne and Wear Buildings Preservation Trust.

 

 

Cllr David Stoker

Cllr David Stoker has been a Trustee at Sherburn since July 2013. He was also a Trustee at Sherburn from October 1994 until September 1996.David was an academic for most of his career, mainly at Durham University Business School, where he was one of the Directors. He currently works as a coach, mentor, mediator, and facilitator with the NHS and in the charitable and not for profit sectors. He is a County Councillor, and his ward - Durham South includes Sherburn Hospital.He is a connoisseur of lost causes being a Liberal Democrat, and a season ticket holder at Sunderland for fifty years.

 

 

Kevin Cummings

Kevin Cummings has been a Trustee since July 2016. He is a Chartered Insurance Practitioner, and worked as a Loss Adjuster handling agricultural and estates losses.In the voluntary sector, he has a long association with the British Red Cross holding Trustee and operational roles at county and national level; now an Honorary Vice-President of County Durham & Teesside Branch.He is also a former PCC Secretary and Fabric Committee chairman and Membership Secretary of the Bow Trust and a Regional Friends' Representative for the Historic Houses Association.

 

 

 

 David Thorne  has been a trustee since April 2018.  He was originally a nurse, David has occupied senior positions within NHS hospitals and commissioning organisations across the north east of England. His career also spans strategic roles within pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Consequently he is an authority on the complex changes underway to UK health and care services.

 David is Managing Director of Blue River Consulting, Chair of Washington Community Health Care and a non-executive Director of the City and Vale GP Alliance in York - innovative collaborations of GP practices, an increasingly common federated model. He was previously Chief Executive of the PBC group that became Newcastle West CCG becoming the 2011 NHS Alliance Acorn Awards CCG Manager of the Year and runner up in the 2012 NAPC Vision Award for CCG Manager of the Year. His charity experience includes several years as a trustee and then chair of Involve North East, a specialist health engagement organisation.

David is married with grown up children and lives at Rothbury in Northumberland.

 

 

 

 

Joe Wilkinson joined us in September 2018. He has many years experience working within the  charity sector and has expert knowledge within the role of governance, especially as a Treasurer.

Joe’s  experience will  help Sherburn House Charity develop and implement its strategic vision, Joe is very well networked within the charity and construction industry and brings a range of skills and expertise with him.
